Procession of Silence

Last night, being Good Friday, the main pedestrian street was lined with people for an annual tradition known as the Procesión del Silencio or the Procession of Silence. Now in its 28th year, the parade winds its way through the downtown streets of Oaxaca de Juarez, watched by thousands of people who line the route.

Fiesta: Las Posadas

The Mexican Christmas tradition of las posadas re-enacts the bible story of Mary and Joseph searching for lodging for the night in Bethlehem. From December 16th in neighbourhoods across Oaxaca and Mexico, a nightly procession is held re-enacting this search on each of the 9 days leading up to Christmas Eve.
