Corazón de Luz: A Picture Speaks A Thousand Words

Angela, at 54 years old, now owns her first ever family photograph.
It is displayed in pride of place in her home on the family altar, below her picture of the Virgin of Guadalupe. She plans to send copies to her sister who lives in Mexico City and her brother in the United States who have not seen her family in years.

Thanks to your support and donation to Corazón de Luz, women in the En Via program in communities around Oaxaca have received their family photos — for some, the first ever. We have distributed most of the photos, all with wonderful response and appreciation.

With studio days advertised through word of mouth, as is common in these communities, we didn’t get quite the turnout we had hoped in terms of numbers. Since there are funds remaining and word will continue to spread through those who are so excited to have their photos, we’ve decided to make this project a long-term one. We will continue to hold future sessions in the communities in order to include all the women who would like photos of their family.

It was so great to be able to tell the women that the photos were free, and that people from around the world donated money just for them. I wish you could have seen the smiles on their faces to hear that.

Thank you again,
Jodi and the Corazón de Luz team
